Upon successful completion of this course candidates will be able to identify the basic construction, purpose and function of components and the purpose and use of all controls and gauges, comply with manufacturers' instructions in accordance with the operator's handbook and other information sources.  Delegates will be able to carry out pre-use and operative checks, configure the excavator for road travel and manoeuvre it over varying types of terrain including substantial inclines and confined spaces.  Once at site the candidate will be able to set the machine to excavate, explain the precautions to be taken for underground and overhead services, place spoil into various sizes of vehicles and hoppers and grade, spread and level different types of terrain.  Finally the trainee will be able to explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter and place the crane in an 'out of service' condition if necessary.
